The Leica M11-P, announced in October 2023, was the world's first camera to ship with built-in C2PA Content Credentials. Leica's implementation was developed in partnership with the Content Authenticity Initiative and set the standard that Nikon, Sony, and Canon subsequently followed.
Supported models
| Model | C2PA Support | Since |
|---|---|---|
| Leica M11-P | Native from launch | October 2023 |
| Leica SL3 | Firmware update | 2024 |

The M11-P shipped with Content Credentials enabled out of the box - no firmware update required. The SL3 and Q3 received support through subsequent firmware updates. Check for the latest firmware at leica-camera.com.
Setup: step by step
Content Credentials on Leica cameras are managed through the Leica FOTOS companion app (iOS and Android). Download or update it to the latest version. The app handles certificate provisioning and credential configuration.
Open Leica FOTOS and pair your camera via Bluetooth. On the camera, navigate to:
Follow the prompts to complete pairing.
In Leica FOTOS, navigate to the Content Credentials section. Sign in with your Leica Account (or create one). The app will provision a signing certificate to your camera. You can configure your name, copyright, and location preferences.
On the camera itself, confirm the feature is enabled:
On the M11-P, this may be enabled by default from the factory.
Capture a test image and transfer it to your computer. Upload to contentcredentials.org/verify. You should see a valid credential identifying the Leica camera model, capture time, and your configured creator information.
Leica's approach: what makes it different
Leica's C2PA implementation is notable for its simplicity. The M11-P was designed with Content Credentials as a first-class feature, not an afterthought. The signing hardware is integrated into the camera's processor, and the user experience is streamlined - once enabled, there's nothing to think about.
Leica also chose to make Content Credentials integral to their brand narrative around photographic authenticity. The M11-P's tagline referenced provenance directly, and Leica has been among the most vocal camera manufacturers in advocating for the standard's adoption across the industry.
Editing and workflow
Leica DNG files with Content Credentials work smoothly in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. The C2PA manifest chains through the edit process exactly as with Nikon files. If you use Capture One or other non-Adobe editors, the original capture credential persists in the file but edit-level assertions won't be added.
Leica FOTOS can also display Content Credentials directly within the app, allowing you to verify images on your phone before transferring them to a computer.
